A person who spiked sweets with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was held in detention before a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "for many years", and children had previously become sick the next day.
She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel stated materials including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were located, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated Ruben proceeded to play the "treat game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
The prosecutor explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities again.
She explained the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
